I love summer. I really love summer. And most years, at the end of summer I feel this dread. The warmth leaves little by little as the days get shorter. So much of the fun of summer is ending and I know the cold of winter is coming.
This year feels different. I’m doing a lot of personal work in therapy and in time with God and I can feel a shift. So to celebrate this new joy I feel towards summer I’ve been creating! I have gold fabric ink and gold paint and the shimmer feels just perfect for the slowly turning of the seasons. Fall is the perfect season for a little gold shimmer, it’s a wonderful complement to the rich reds, oranges, and yellows of the leaves.
I’m also creating Halloween items and having so much fun! These smiling pumpkins never fail to cheer me up. The bright orange ink is so vibrant and their huge, gaping smiles brighten up each towel and napkin.
And a new selection of leaves. I LOVE these. I used a technique of rolling two colors at once on my inking plate to get these gradients. The colors are rich and warm, mimicking the woods in the autumn. I can just see these on a thanksgiving table in a few weeks. Can’t you?
I’m still a summer girl through and through. But, I learning to enjoy each season in its time. I think it will make the return of summer that much sweeter.
